Stirrup style trousers
I love it when fashion and function come together. And with the new trend of stirrup pants, that’s exactly what’s happening! Stirrup style pants were traditionally used for function only… to keep your pants in boots during physical activities like riding, skiing, for ballet, etc. They were super popular in the 80’s… does anyone else remember? But now, stirrup pants are getting a fashionable twist. The 80s-inspired trend is growing in popularity and is worn with heels, mules, loafers and flats. It might feel weird at first… but this new trend is everywhere, and I have a feeling we’ll be seeing it more and more in winter and spring! I’m sharing an easy way to style your stirrup pants and a few of my favorites…
How to wear stirrup pants
Since this is a relatively new trend, the way you style them is quite open to interpretation. I’ve seen celebrities and fashionistas style them with heels, loafers and boots. But whether they wear the stirrups on the outside or inside of the shoe is what varies. I personally like the way they look worn on the outside of the shoe because it’s so fashionable. There are also many options for underwire leggings, tights, and jeans. Keep scrolling to see how I styled stirrup pants…
Tip: If you’re not quite ready to jump into the trend or don’t want to buy stirrup pants, you can always buy stirrup clips to try on with your favorite pants!
Elisabetta Franchi Stirrup Pants
Instead of going for super tight leggings or tights, I decided to try the trend with more traditional fitting pants that incorporate the stirrup trend. This pair of Elisabetta Franchi pants is SO chic. Love the seams at the front, v-shaped hemline and super high waist… which makes them very flattering too! The stirrups are more raised than other stirrup pants I’ve seen as they have little gold buttons on the sides that add an extra style element which I love. I picked these up in Madrid but can’t find anywhere online to link them. They do have them in red here. But I also link very similar options below.
TROUSERS IN RED | SIMILAR PANTS (WHITE) | FOR LESS | BLAZER | CAMI | PUMPS | SIMILAR NECKLACE
I took a note of Victoria Beckham and wore my stirrups on the outside of my heels. These heels are so comfortable, chic and have a nice shaped heel that makes them even more unique. The exact pair is sold out, but I linked a similar pair which is even better because they have a more manageable heel and they come in four other colors too. You could also just wear a pair of classic black pointed toe pumps that you already have in your closet!
On my top half, I’m wearing a cropped cami, but if you’d rather not show your midriff, wear a long white cami or blouse. On top of that I wear a black boyfriend blazer from Mango. I love the oversized fit and if you already own a fitted black blazer, this is a great addition to your wardrobe! My multi-strand pearl necklace is a special piece I picked up the last time I was in NYC. I took Elizabeth to the Chanel store for the first time and it was a very exciting, special experience and memory that we got to make together! However, I’ve linked another gorgeous necklace option above.
