Who knew chess could be so stylish? Have you seen the Netflix hit series Queen’s Gambit? It is set in the 1960s and features a fictional chess star, Beth Harmon, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. Beth overcomes her less-than-perfect childhood as an orphan and her substance abuse problems to become a World Chess Champion contender. But her outfits… they are anything but nerdy! I found myself tuning in to see what she would wear now. The troubled chess prodigy turns into a style idol and her classic look changes dramatically! Chess is all about strategy. But fashion is also strategic because choosing the right clothes for every day has a big impact on how you feel and look. I’m sharing 3 Queen’s Gambit inspired looks that are classic and timeless…winners.

Watch #1) Vintage Details
In this first look, I’m wearing a & Other Stories, black and white mini dress with black heeled boots. The dress has beautiful pearl buttons, a contrasting white color and a pleated skirt. These are the details that make the dress so quintessentially classic and give off that retro vibes. It’s amazing that a style of clothing that was considered chic and elegant in the 1960s is still relevant and trendy today. I love buying pieces that will stand the test of time! This exact dress is only available in limited sizes, but I wanted to share some very similar options…
Black and white is both a timeless and trending color combination. How is this possible? Read this post for a fresh take on this spring 2022 fashion trend.

Look #2) Tie Neck
In this next look I’m wearing another & Other Stories mini dress with a tie collar and a small polka dot pattern. The tie collar can be tied or worn in a bow. I would wear it tied up for the office and then open it for dinner or date night. The dress’s fit and flare silhouette is very similar to Beth Harmon’s look in the photo above! It’s super flattering on its own, but you can also add a belt for more waist definition. I love this Elisabetta Franchi belt but unfortunately it is not available anywhere but this is a similar option. There is something about a blouse or dress with a tie belt that is SO sophisticated and timeless! Here are some standout pieces with the same bow detail…

Look #3) Classic white coat
A classic white coat is another timeless piece that you can wear for seasons. This simple one-button lapel jacket from Express is the perfect length to wear with dresses, skirts or trousers. It’s also lightweight, so as we head into the warmer months it will transition into spring beautifully. I’ve draped it over my shoulders, which not only allows your arms to breathe, but it’s definitely an effortless and chic look. I paired the coat with all the winter white monochromatic pieces, including a cute tulle skirt, sequin top and accessories. The exact coat is sold in white, but there are many great white coat options to choose from. Here are a few that caught my eye…
STYLE TIP: As with most white clothing, keeping a white coat looking fresh and clean can be difficult, so I don’t recommend breaking the bank on this particular purchase!
