Throwback Beauty Trends are taking over the catwalks

Nostalgia has been a constant source of inspiration in fashion for decades, with a particular fixation on the 90s and early years in particular. Well, dust off your emo eyeliner and get out your crimping tool, because the fall 2022 runways herald a revival of even more nostalgic trends — this time in hair and makeup.

This season’s runways are brimming with old-time beauty moments, with seemingly no old-school trend out of bounds. Christian Cowan’s beauty look championed several early 2000s styles – chunky zigzag sections, intense black waterliner, dip-dyed pink hair, square acrylic nails! — all at once, for a particularly delightful effect. Meanwhile, models at Victor Glemaud, Khiry and Elena Velez wore punk-y lipstick; for at least one model at the latter it was accompanied by a spiky low bun, many of us spent most of 2002 lusting after. Christian Siriano’s catwalk also took on an early 2000s vibe with neatly shrunken hair, which served as a sassy accent in the designer’s Victorian Matrix of a collection.
